More than 228 species have been recorded in Sleepy Hollow, from the common Blue Jay to the Eastern Bluebird. During migration, look for waterfowl in Lake Ovid. The rarely recorded Bonaparte's Gull or Bald Eagle also have been sighted.

Lake Ovid has proven to be a very popular fishing lake with a wide variety of fish such as pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, rock bass, perch, catfish and bullheads.

The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into state parks and recreation areas, state boat launches, state forest campgrounds and state trail parking lots. Boat launch and parking area are paved. Lake Ovid is a "No Wake" lake inside Sleepy Hollow State park. There are 2 boating access sites in Clinton County maintained by the park, Muskrat Lake and Looking Glass River. See the Michigan Recreational Boating Information System for more information.

Kayaks, rowboats, paddleboats and pontoon boats are available for rent.

Rose Lake State Wildlife Research Area

For the day-user, a beach is located northwest of the campground with picnic tables, beach house and phones. Three picnic areas are located within the park. Each of the picnic areas have vault toilets, hand water pumps, picnic tables, grills and a shelter. In addition, the East Picnic Area offers a picnic shelter equipped with a fireplace, and the Island Picnic area offers a bridge to the largest island on Lake Ovid. Each shelter is available at no charge on a first-come-first-serve basis or is reservable at a per day fee.

In addition there are over six miles of horse trails, open to day users who trailer their horses in for the day. Horses are allowed on horse trails only. Bridle Trails are maintained and managed by the Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders Association (SHTRA.

There are more than 11 miles of hiking trails that take you through prairie grasses, hardwood forest and stands of pine trees.

Snowmobiling is allowed in the west end of the park when there is at least four inches of snow on the ground. Snowmobiles are prohibited on cross country ski trails, and must have a current registration.

I agree, last time I was at the beach there was a TON of dog droppings that needed to be picked up. GROSS

Had a blast swimming with my dogs, noticed some seagulls there too, and a few insects, and of course the fish that were in the water. There was some Yuppie there whining about dogs at the beach. Otherwise we all had a great day, lovely park!
