The Electricians Guide to Good Practice consists of over 200 pages of helpful reference information for anyone interested in the IET Wiring Regulations. The following are example pages which show an electrical isolation procedure, resistance values for copper and aluminium conductors and IP ratings.

The Electricians Guide to Good Practice also contains many pages of data on current carrying capacity and voltage drop of cables, conduit and trunking capacities, maximum spacing for clips and supports for cables etc. The following are example pages which show a reference table for the maximum lengths of cable used in various radial circuits and the current carrying capacity of non-armoured thermosetting insulated flexible cables with sheaths.

Latest Updates to the Electricians Guide to Good Practice Book:
An updated version of the Electricians Guide to Good Practice Book was published in June 2008.
The updated book incorporates the following changes to the issue published in January:

Improvements to the layout, text size and positioning on the pages for improved legibility,
Simplified drawings of the TN-S, TN-C-S and TT systems,
Inclusion of table 41.6 (Max Zs for reduced low voltage systems),
Clarification on the requirements for the use of RCDs,
Notes that supplementary bonding may not be required in bathrooms when certain criteria are met,
Minor changes to the page on reference methods of cable installation,
Inclusion of table 52.3 (minimum csa of conductors),
Clarification on the requirements for bathrooms and swimming pools.

A further update to the Electricians Guide to Good Practice Book was published in April 2009.
The updated book incorporates the following changes to the issue published in June 2008:

The new standard circuits have been incorporated into the book, bringing the total number of pages to over 200,
Further improvements to the layout and some drawings,
Quick-reference title boxes have been added to the tables for ease of use,
The special locations section has been slightly extended to cover as many of the locations as possible,

The updated book incorporates the 1st Amendment to the 17th Edition and the following changes:

New definitions, improved testing for dead and isolation procedure,
Inclusion of the In figures for breakers and fuses,
New Correction factors added, improved explanation of the R1 and R2 correction factors from 54.2 and 54.3,
Various improvements to the layout and several drawings improved for clarity,
Updates to the Inspection and Testing section,
Medical Locations, Operation and Maintenance Gangways and Electromagnetic interference section added,
BS1361 fuses removed from various tables and BS 88-2 and BS88-3 inserted,

The updated book incorporates the 3rd Amendment to the 17th Edition and the following changes:

New definitions and changes to the symbols used,
Some layout improvements,
Addition of 2A and 4A BS88-2 fuses,
Tweeks to the earth fault loop impedance drawings,
Changes to the max Zs figures allowed due to the new Cmin factor which reduces the theoretical supply voltage,
Consequent changes due to the introduction of Cmin to the Conventional circuits tables,
Various small changes to the cable reference tables,
Addition of Sections 714, 715 and 722 (Outdoor Lighting and Vehicle Charging).

An updated version of the Electricians Guide to Good Practice Book was published in July 2018.
The updated book incorporates the 18th Edition and has the following changes:

Some new definitions eg: 'selectivity',
The allowable exemptions for RCD protection was altered,
An additional circumstance in which RCD protection is required was added - for lighting circuits in domestic houses,
The max Zs tables were extended to include some higher rated fuses,
Introduction of the requirement for AFDDs,
Expansion of the section on lightning protection,
Regulation reference number changes to Part 6,
Addition of Section 730 (commercial boats on rivers and canals).

Further updates were published in March 2019 and February 2021.
The latest book incorporates the 18th Edition and has the following changes:

The wording describing the required disconnection times that are required by Table 41.1 was improved,
A small error had crept into Table 4B1 that was corrected,
Section 423 - Protection against burns was added, including the maximum temperature limits Table 42.1,
Some small improvements were made to the list of tables section,
Table 64 was incorrectly titled Table 61,
The description of the Wiring Regulations and its recent history was updated.

A new update was published in June 2022.
The latest book incorporates Amendments 1 & 2 to the 18th Edition and has the following changes:

The structure was altered so that the book follows the wiring regs itself better.
2 extra stages were added to the design procedure (checking short circuit protection and minimum sizes of cable allowed)
Updates about the use of RCDs, RCBOs, AFDDs and SPDs
2 new sections on protection against thermal effects and protection against voltage disturbances were added
The wording and layout of the special locations section was improved
A new section on prosumers' electrical installations (PEIs) was added
There were various other small changes throughout the book.

THE ELECTRICIANS GUIDE TO INSPECTION AND TESTING

This book explains how electrical installations should be inspected and tested. It is an essential reference book for all those studying for the City & Guilds 2391 or 2396 examinations. The book describes and explains the checks required during the visual inspection, and provides guidance on how the electrical tests should be carried out. Explanatory colour drawings are included.

The Electricians Guide to Inspection and Testing consists of over 100 pages of helpful reference information for anyone interested in the inspection and testing of electrical installations.

INSPECTION: The following are example pages from the book which contain advice about the suggested frequency of inspection and testing for various different types of installation, a reduced visual inspection checklist and suggestions about what to look for when inspecting for correct identification and routing of conductors.

TESTING: The main part of the Electricians Guide to Inspection and Testing is the section on testing. Explanatory drawings show how the tests should be performed, with accompanying advice on the key issues surrounding each test. The following are examples of the pages about main earth bonding tests, ring circuit tests and insulation resistance testing.

CERTIFICATION: An essential part of the inspection and testing process is the completion of the various forms required by the IET. The Electricians Guide to Inspection and Testing Book shows examples of these forms with suggested entries to help show what should go on them. An updated version of the Electricians Guide to Inspection and Testing Book was published in December 2008.
The updated book incorporates the following changes to the issue published in March 2008:

Improvements to the suggested test drawings for improved legibility;
Changes to Tables 2A to 2D (The maximum measured values of earth fault loop impedance);
Changes to the measured values shown on the test certificates so that the expression Zs = Ze + (R1 + R2) is true.

An updated version of the Electricians Guide to Inspection and Testing Book was published in August 2011.
The updated book incorporates the 1st Amendment to the 17th Edition and the following changes:

Restructure of the book so that the differences between what is required for new and existing installations could be made clear;
Various drawings and tables improved for clarity;
Stronger warnings about isolating properly before dismantling or proceeding to live tests added;
Breaking capacities of protective devices added;
The new Condition Reports for periodic inspection included;
Maximum Zs for BS3871 breakers and BS1361 fuses added;

The updated book incorporates Amendment 3 and the following changes:

The initial inspection section was re-written so that it tallies up with Sec 642 in the Regs;
